The Classic Tahitian Pearls

The scientific name for this class of oysters is the Pinctada margaritifera. These oysters are exclusively found in the lagoons and corals of the islands of French Polynesia. The rearing of these oysters is an elaborate process. First of all, the ;spat; of black lipped oysters are harvested. ;Spat; is nothing but young ones of mature black lipped oysters. These are harvested when these matured oysters produces spawn and these spawn in turn form the spat. The spat so produced fix themselves to the sea bed or the coral from where it can be harvested by the farmers by mechanical means.Probably the readers would have heard about the Tahitian pearls which are referred as the queen of pearls for its amazing elegance and exotic nature.
